Manual wheelchairs support independent mobility at home, in the community and when travelling. Choose a self-propelled wheelchair if you have arm strength to push yourself, or an attendant-propelled (transit) wheelchair when a carer pushes you — often lighter, narrower and easier to load into a car.

How to choose: match seat width to hip measurement plus a little room; check total weight if you need to lift the chair into a boot; folding models suit occasional use and travel while rigid or rehab frames offer more postural support for daily use.
